Who is Edna?

Two weekends ago I was in New York to attend a ‘celebration of life’ event for a dear friend, Marty Berenberg.  Marty was an exceptional human being…kind, empathic, intelligent, nurturing, a true friend, and a guy with a wicked sense of humor!  He and I would share many moments of connection when I would crack a joke and no one would get it except Marty.  I always loved him for that!

He also shared my disgust for what is happening in our government, and he made a choice about 2 ½ years ago to never mention Trump’s name again because it only served to imprint his image on our psyches when that was the last thing that we needed.  So Marty decided to forevermore refer to Trump as ‘Edna’.  In all his emails and discussions, he would refer to Edna whenever it was necessary to talk about Trump or what havoc he was wreaking.

I had forgotten this tidbit, but when we were all remembering Marty, someone (I think Fern, his wife) brought it to our attention again.  And I can’t think of a more fitting tribute to Marty to never mention Trump’s name again, but only to refer to him as Edna.  So I pledge to do the same in whatever I write about what is going on.  Edna fits so much better that his real name….and to all the Ednas in the world, I appreciate your chagrin about having to share you name with such a misanthropic narcissist---please forgive me!

Well, Edna has brought us all up short this past week with his(her!) acceptance of collusion as a legitimate tool for elections.  The threshold for the ‘I’ word for Edna has probably been crossed over by Edna’s statements, however there is still the fear on the part of the Democrats that by opening an inquiry into impeachment they will somehow lose the election because impeachment will strengthen Edna’s appeal as a victim. 

Maybe there is a better idea….

Since impeachment is virtually impossible because of the brain-dead Republicans, perhaps the House can move to place a ‘concept’ in the public’s consciousness that will remain intact all during the campaign.  Why don’t the Democrats, since they control the House, create some ‘legislation’ or a ‘decree’ that simply declares Edna a criminal because of “X,Y, and Z”.  It would stand out as a unique declaration by Congress(similar to a Congressional Contempt decree)that there was criminal behavior.  It could be used incessantly in campaign ads, PR statements, in all forms of the media, it would certainly be newsworthy and would catch on as a meme for the election.

The predominant position among Democrats is that this upcoming election will be won on the issues, the legislation and plans that the House Democrats along with the Presidential nominee can formulate and present to the voters.  They are correct.  It will be so easy to itemize all the bad things that have resulted from actions during Edna’s reign to the common folk.  If the Democrats have solutions (ala Elizabeth Warren) that they have proposed and made a concerted effort to communicate to all the places where Edna held sway in 2016, I can’t imagine they will fail.  That way impeachment is not an issue; the House has definitively made a statement about Edna’s criminality; and then focused on helping the citizens of the USA.

My guess is that the ‘Decree’ will come to be known as the instrument that created the most havoc for Edna.  Edna will choke over it and bring it up incessantly.    Hopefully it will distract Edna from taking us any farther into the abyss.
